Post Card #2 Girl with Long Hair.

AFTER MAX NONNENBRUCH
 (German 1857-1922)
Bien Otre--Wellness--circa 1900 Oil on canvas.

This is a post card my Mother and Aunt (RIP) had in their collection. It was brought over from the Ukraine by my Grandmother. It always fascinated me when I was a child.....the long hair on this lady.
It's very old because on the back of it it said printed in St. Petersburg, Russia. Which the name of the city St. Petersburg was changed to Leningrad in 1924. I'm sure that someone in my Grandmother's family had traveled to St. Petersburg at the turn of the century and picked this up....they were an affluent family before the Revolution.

I was excited to learn of the Artist who painted this picture in my later years.......it's such a different pose for a portrait. I love the vibrant red that is peeking out of her top. Sort of looks like some oriental type of clothing.

  1. This is indeed a beautiful and fascinating card. How lucky you are that your grandmother kept it safe and in the family!

It does look like the girl is wearing some type of kimono, doesn't it? And that long hair is gorgeous.

  4. Who knows what the history of this pc is? The girl is lovely, her hair flowing to her waist, - and why did your grandmother keep it, I wonder? My English grandmother also had a fab collection of old postcards but unfortunately they were burnt in all innocence after she died.

  5. Thanks for your kind comment....my Grandmother always liked nice things and grew up with them...but when the Russian Revol. came they lost everything....not only material things but relatives.... So I guess these were some of the things she managed to keep that reminded her of something in the life before.....

    1. Hi Irene....yes it is an unusual card, I couldn't see sending one like that. But it is about 100 years old that card, maybe it was from a Museum??? it was done by some German painter (turn of the century).
      have a great weekend.

  8. Beautiufl girl, I have always been a fan of long luxurious locks. Wonderful that your Grandmother was able to keep it. It looks so real, it is hard to imagine the talent the painter must have had to do that. Thanks for sharing some of your history.
